I Love You From The Bottom Of My Heart

Shatorah & Doug

Wilmington New York Elopement Film

Our story is, in many ways, quite ordinary. We fell in love by being radically vulnerable, relentlessly supportive, and choosing each other with unconditional love—day after day. We’re both nature enthusiasts at heart, far more at home among the trees than out on the town. We treasure quality time, adore dogs, and credit Synclaire as a big reason we grew even closer.
I like to remind Doug that she was my dog first… but the way he treats her, you’d think she was his firstborn.

We met at a fundraiser in Buffalo, New York. Doug had just returned to town, and I was making my usual rounds when someone pulled me aside to “meet the new guy.” I was told he was a veteran with impressive credentials. Intrigued, I approached him to learn more about his Army service. I don’t recall exactly what I said—or how he responded—but I do remember the bow tie, the side part, and how out of place he looked. He didn’t strike me as particularly lethal, so I smiled and took my leave. Little did I know, my silly remarks caught Doug’s attention. Two years later he made his move and asked me on a date.

What was your favorite memory of your wedding day?

Every moment of our wedding day was perfect. From the laid-back brunch to getting ready, and especially the quiet time we spent together after the ceremony, soaking in that just-married joy. But if we had to pick a favorite memory, it would be when Synclaire decided—right in the middle of the benediction—that she was done and headed back to the car. She slipped off into the woods, completely unnoticed by poor Tom, who had no idea what was unfolding just behind him. Doug and I held our breath, waiting for the final “Amen” so we could dash after her. Every couple deserves a little mischief on their wedding day.

What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, its location and your venue choice for your big day?

Our wedding was a perfect reflection of who we are—both as individuals and as a family. As self-proclaimed introverts, we’ve never been drawn to the spotlight. We find joy in slow mornings, unhurried conversations, and sharing thoughtful meals with the people we love. And, more than anything, we feel most at peace in the mountains.
Choosing a traditional elopement wasn’t easy, but it felt right. We’ve always had a pull toward the High Peaks and visit as often as we can. I proposed to Shatorah in the Niagara Gorge, so it was only fitting to exchange vows in the heart of the Adirondacks—a place already etched into our story.
We ended the evening just as we’d hoped: tucked away in the forest, sharing a quiet, chef-prepared meal to celebrate the beginning of our marriage.

What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding?

Our top tips for couples planning their wedding are:
1- Decide what kind of marriage you want first— then plan your wedding accordingly. Design your wedding to curate the kind of memories that matter to you.
2-  Cut your planned expenses in half because they will double anyway.

What made you decide to hire a wedding videographer? Any tips for couples on the fence for a film?

Any tips for couples on the fence for a film?We decided to hire a videographer because we want to relive this day over and over again. Since we chose to elope, it was important to find a way to share such an intimate moment with the people we love. We knew video was the only way to capture the full spirit of the day—and we’re so grateful we chose Gavin to tell our story.

What did you like about working with me?

We loved working with Gavin. He is detailed, thoughtful, and incredibly responsive. We loved working with him—not just because of his talent, but because he helped us think through so many important details leading up to the day. When the wedding finally arrived, he felt more like a guest than a vendor. We were completely at ease with him and trusted his direction without hesitation. If we ever need video again, Gavin will be our first call.
