Tinder in the middle of the pandemic! It was all magic.
We knew each other from the gym since 2015, but didn’t start dating until 2018. We went on our first date in January 2018 and we hit it off right away. We closed two different places because we didn’t want that first date to end. We went to yoga the next morning for our second date and the relationship took off from there. We shared a deep connection early on. We haven’t left each other’s side since. Mike proposed in April 2021 as Hannah was entering the last year of her PhD in Clinical Psychology and preparing to start a one-year internship in PA. Mike supported Hannah as she commuted 2 hours daily for one year so that they could remain living in the same home. Following that transition year, we moved to Portland, OR in January 2022. Right before moving, we eloped to Las Vegas in November 2021 to legally join our family. We are loving our new adventure in the Pacific Northwest and so grateful to our amazing family and friends who support us and our relationship in New York. Our wedding in August 2022 was the amazing celebration we hoped for but did not have time to plan before moving across the country.
Back in 2019, Kahssia was living in New Jersey but driving back to Syracuse every weekend because she was homesick. One weekend, she came home to go to an informal house party at her and Radelle’s mutual friend KJ’s house (KJ was also our super talented wedding photographer by the way).
Little did she know, Radelle was going to be there too. Now … Radelle and Kahssia had interacted a bit on Twitter before but nothing serious. At the kickback Radelle tweeted he wanted diner food and, sitting in the same room, Kahssia replied back his to his tweet agreeing that that did sound good.
At the function, Radelle could see that certain guests in attendance were getting uncomfortably close to Kahssia and he discreetly kept them out of Kahssia’s space for the night. She sub-tweeted him saying that she found the sense of protection attractive and he DM-ed to confirm it was him she was talking about. That day, they exchanged numbers.
Despite them texting very often, they didn’t actually get that diner food until a couple weeks later – when Radelle asked if Kahssia was still up for it and thankfully she was. It was by sheer luck that Radelle made it to the date too. He had just gotten off of work, showered, and had just enough time to grab a dozen roses right before the florist closed.
When Kahssia saw him walk in the diner with roses, she knew this was going to be more than just a friendly bite to eat … and as hard as she tried not to admit it – it was a good feeling. Kahssia and Radelle talked for hours … until the diner closed.
That still wasn’t enough time spent with one another though. They went on a date every day that week and each time they spent hours talking to one another. Between Texas Roadhouse, Tullys, Club 11, bowling, the movies … it was clear they were on the path towards something worthwhile.
These dates spanned across the week of Thanksgiving and eventually Kahssia had to go back to New Jersey for work. After she returned, she and Radelle talked daily – they’d start and end each day with messages to one another.
A little less than a month after they began talking, they made it official by becoming a couple … on December 4th, 2019.
And here they are, married 3 years later … on December 4th, 2022 at the diner where it all started.
We have spent a lot of time apart in our relationship. Because of this, when we do get to be together, we really enjoy doing typical day to day things…grocery shopping, making dinner, goofing around, watching our favorite tv shows (the office, great British baking show, criminal minds, and planet earth), going to our families houses for dinner, and harassing our cat, Charlie. We know that our relationship has been so successful is because we completely trust each other and have never doubted the commitment of the other to our relationship. This is something we felt initially when Pat would travel for work, and I was stuck in Troy working on my degree and even now as I’m still stuck in Troy and Pat is working on his degree in New Hampshire. We have encouraged each other to make choices that allow us to be the best version of ourselves and reach for our goals even though it kept us apart. We both fully believe in delayed gratification and are excited that our marriage marks the beginning of our life together (in the same location too).
From ski trips to cruises, nights in cuddling the puppy, or hanging out in the lake, the adventures have been endless. Eric actually invited me on his annual sibling ski trip a month after knowing me. It was on this annual ski trip, two years later when Eric got down on one knee at the Domain Chandon winery in Napa, CA, and asked me to marry him. After laughing in his face because I didn’t think it was real, I said yes. From there, we started planning for a wedding in September 2020. As we all know how that played out, we had to postpone our big event. We decided that we would still get married surrounded by close family and friends and on our one-year anniversary host the wedding we had dreamed of and planned. Now two weddings, and one anniversary later we cannot wait to spend the rest of our lives together with our wonderful puppy Ollivander. I think everyone is glad they don’t have to hear about it anymore considering this event has been in the making since January 2019 (kidding – but seriously, it was a very extended wedding planning process).
We met in D.C, grew together in San Francisco and made it official in NYC. We in many ways embody the statement, opposites attract! We were set up by two friends, and dated for a year before taking it seriously.
