Brightened My Best Qualities, Infinitely | Plattekill Mountain | Roxbury New York Wedding Film | Karin and Daniel

What is your story?

SUNY Oneonta is where it all began. In 2016, we became fast friends. While we were there, we both learned about our adventurous and creative sides. These were the things we learned to love most about each other.
In 2018, we packed up our belongings and moved cross country to Los Angeles. While we were in L.A., we got to explore the vast beauty that California had to offer, while both flourish within our respective careers. While we were there, we adopted our dog, Shelby Cobra Maranga-Jacobson (yes after the car).
In 2021, after a long evening of Mexican food and too much California sun, we got engaged.  A few months later we packed up our bright Orange Subaru and moved back east to Atlanta, GA.
Ever since becoming friends in 2016, we have not lost our adventurous and creative sparks. We frequently explore new areas and try new hobbies. On July 31st, 2022, we officially became Mr. & Mrs. Maranga-Jacobson, which was our most creative and exciting adventure yet. We can’t wait to see what comes next!

What was your favorite memory of your wedding day?

Our favorite memory from the wedding day was our private vow reading. Under a beautiful tree at the Roxbury Motel, we conducted a first look and recited our vows. This was such a special moment because it was the only thing that was not planned together. From seeing the dress for the first time to hearing special words from each other, it was truly a magically moment. We decided to keep our vows completely private and did not read them at the ceremony. Instead, we buried them in a crabapple tree buried in dirt we dug up from the middle of SUNY Oneonta campus. It symbolized where we started and how far we have gotten. But also, the words we read to each other in private will help our tree (and love) grow.
We can’t forget to shout out our first dance. We practiced for MONTHS and finally being able to show everyone our hours and hours of practice was extremely satisfying. Our hard work paid off for a beautiful moment, even though we had all our loved ones surrounding us, it just felt we were the only ones in the room.

What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, its location and your venue choice for your big day?

The wedding was a whimsical wildflower wedding, hosted at Plattekill Mountain. We both wanted to make sure it was as unique, bright and colorful as we are. We opted for the ski mountain because of the unforgettable views from the mountain top ceremony and romantic atmosphere that was created by the lodge.

What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding?

We encourage you not to wait until the last minute and to remember that it’s a team effort. It was a blast being able to design, create, and shop for all of the wedding décor with each other. Also, no one will know what they don’t know, so if something goes awry, let it happen.

What made you decide to hire a wedding videographer? Any tips for couples on the fence for a film?

We were going back and forth between hiring a wedding photographer or just having our friends’ films certain parts of our wedding. We picked a few we liked and conducted interviews. To be honest, the deciding factor was Gavin. While we chatted, he made us confident that adding a video element would be something unforgettable and worth looking back at. If you are on the fence, we highly encourage it. Gavin made us literally and emotionally look at our wedding from a different lens. He made us reflect on the true meaning of the day and allowed us to enjoy our time together. We never felt rushed, and we were able to be ourselves, which made it even more romantic.
