Love Like a River | Seminary Hill Orchard & Cidery | Callicoon New York Wedding Film | Dorothy & William

How did the two of you meet?

The short story is – at a Halloween Party. We started dating a few months later, in January of 2020, and became inseparable shortly after- literally, we quarantined together after 3 months of dating, then “officially” moved in with one another in September of the same year. And by that I mean Will finally gave up the Fidi apartment we first met in since we had been living together at my place in Astoria since March when lockdown first began.

What was your favorite memory of your wedding day?

Will: Dancing and celebrating with all of friends. I don’t think we left the dance floor. I also loved Dori’s impromptu DJ set.
Dorothy: Walking down the aisle with my mom & Will’s buddies shielding us from view. Everyone thought it was a crazy idea, but we laughed so much. I also loved the dancing, maybe too much. We both ended the night with some injuries, but it was well worth it.

What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, its location and your venue choice for your big day?

We wanted our wedding to feel like us, and really encapsulate the small details that hold meaning to us. The design centered on our custom toile, an homage to the places & things we hold dear: Brooklyn (our home), Cypress Cafe (our weekend ritual), June Farms (a beloved getaway), Pizza (no explanation needed), Cookies (the treat I brought Will on our first date), MoMA (our first date & engagement site), and Sushi (the name of our cat). Seminary Hill was the most gorgeous backdrop, meaning we didn’t need a lot of decor. For the decor we did include we still tied it back to us. We love to dance, so we infused movement into the decor with various scalloped & wavy patterns (even the edge of my veil). Our escort display featured artwork from assorted collections at MoMA, and the quote on the back of the newspaper was by an architect also featured at MoMA (and on their merch). We basically wanted to write a love story about our love story. Most importantly we wanted to make it feel warm and personal for our guests, which is why we included a personal one liner/inside joke on each person’s escort card.

What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding?

Plan early, have fun, and make it personal. Beautiful aesthetics are great, but at the end of the day what matters is celebrating your love in a way that is authentic and meaningful to you.

What made you decide to hire a wedding videographer? Any tips for couples on the fence for a film?

Our friends and family are spread out throughout the country, so it meant a lot to us to have so many of the people we loved in one place. We wanted to have memories to look back on with everyone in them. If you’re on the fence and can wiggle the budget around to make it work, go for it. As someone without a lot of family photos to look back on, I’m so excited to finally capture some of my own, and having video and audio makes it all the more special.

What did you like about working with me?

Working with Gavin was a breeze. Through the ups and downs and stress of the morning before a wedding he was punctual, professional, warm and a calming presence. We felt like we were in good hands and could trust him to guide us while also letting us do our thing.
