What is your story?
We knew each other from the gym since 2015, but didn’t start dating until 2018. We went on our first date in January 2018 and we hit it off right away. We closed two different places because we didn’t want that first date to end. We went to yoga the next morning for our second date and the relationship took off from there. We shared a deep connection early on. We haven’t left each other’s side since. Mike proposed in April 2021 as Hannah was entering the last year of her PhD in Clinical Psychology and preparing to start a one-year internship in PA. Mike supported Hannah as she commuted 2 hours daily for one year so that they could remain living in the same home. Following that transition year, we moved to Portland, OR in January 2022. Right before moving, we eloped to Las Vegas in November 2021 to legally join our family. We are loving our new adventure in the Pacific Northwest and so grateful to our amazing family and friends who support us and our relationship in New York. Our wedding in August 2022 was the amazing celebration we hoped for but did not have time to plan before moving across the country.
How did the two of you meet?
We met at GSR Crossfit in 2015 and got to know each other somewhat through group fitness classes. In 2018, we discovered that we were both single via Tinder. We went on our first date shortly after.
What was your favorite memory of your wedding day?
So many, but some of the highlights are our first look, reading our vows to each other, our first dance, the speeches, and dancing to the amazing Jess Novak Band, just to name a few.
What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, its location and your venue choice for your big day?
We wanted to have a big celebration with our family and friends following our elopement in November. Our venue–Mountain Top View–was the perfect, outdoor venue. We were able to tour the space in December 2021 just before we moved and loved that they offer a ceremony and reception space, as well as food, drinks, and dessert, all in one place. Sarah from Mountain Top was also amazing in helping with our decorations and setting everything up on the wedding day. The vibe was just primarily based on our general style and taste–classy but not too formal. It was important to hire a really good band for the reception. We wanted people to be able to relax and have fun but also for things to look really nice.
What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding?
Mike: Hire Hannah.
Hannah: Make lots of lists and spreadsheets to keep track of tasks and with due dates. Pick the things that you really like and the important people in your life will like them too. I have been surprised at how many people have told me how much they enjoyed the details of our wedding and how thoughtful everything was. The feedback was an added bonus to an amazing day and weekend!
What made you decide to hire a wedding videographer? Any tips for couples on the fence for a film?
We eloped to Vegas last November and one of our biggest regrets was not having any video footage. For our big celebration, we wanted to make sure that we didn’t make the same mistake, and we are very glad we decided to hire Gavin as our videographer.
Anything else you would like to share?
Gavin did a great job capturing our day and we would certainly recommend him to anyone trying to decide on a videographer for their wedding. He met with us several times before the big day and was great in communicating with us in the days leading up to the wedding!
