We’re two very similar people who were born over 6,000 miles away! Tom was born in Qindao, China, and Abby in Long Island, New York.  We fell in love in medical school and have been inseparable ever since! After being together for seven years, three of them being long distance, we feel so excited to spend the rest of our lives together.

How did the two of you meet?

We met at a book discussion event in medical school. It was Abby’s first day of orientation and Tom was a second year medical student. We were paired to be apart of the same small discussion group and both thought the other was incredibly smart and well spoken. At another orientation event later in the week Tom basically followed Abby around the entire night and the rest was history. 

What was your favorite memory of your wedding day?

Our favorite memory of our wedding day was definitely the ceremony. Hannah, Abby’s childhood friend, crafted the ceremony in collaboration with both of us and she made us both laugh and cry.  Tom’s favorite memory was Abby walking down the aisle, he says he cried much more than he thought he would. One of Abby’s favorites was each of us pointing to each other’s runny noses during the ceremony and passing the tissue back and forth, it definitely provided some comedic relief from the crying! Abby also loved getting to do yoga and go on a morning run with her family and friends the morning of the wedding, the nature was so calming!

What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, its location and your venue choice for your big day?

We wanted the wedding to feel like a weekend long family and friend reunion. With Tom’s family flying in from China, and most of our medical school friends from all over the country, we wanted people to have time to form real connections. 

What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding?

Remember you are marrying the love of your life and when the details get overwhelming, remind yourself of this. It is all that really matters!

What made you decide to hire a wedding videographer? Any tips for couples on the fence for a film?

We wanted to remember this day for our entire lives and knew the details would fly by on the actual day! We were so happy we decided to go with Gavin! He really went with the flow and got along with everyone!
